Tomorrow - Saturday, December 6 from 10am - 6pm I will be at the HOLIDAY CRAFTACULAR in Madison, Wisconsin! It is my last show of the year! Here are just a few of the new yarns I will have -
This weekend I will be at the Hilldale Mall in Madison, Wisconsin for the "Artistic Accessories" show! I will have lots of hand knit shawls, light scarves, wristwarmers, and more! Hours are basically mall hours - Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday 10am-6pm. If you are in the area, come on by for great Mother's Day gift shopping, or to find something special for yourself!
And, since I can't possibly have a post without yarn pictures - here are some new yarns!
First, the Divine Melon skeins ARE available!

And, some single ply yarns spun from batts of wonderful fiber!

That's
it for me! While I will be spinning over the weekend at the show I
won't have anything new posted until next week - lots of art yarns
coming and more!
First, here are the new yarns that I listed yesterday! Click on the pictures to take you to the etsy listing, or you can check them out at KittyGrrlz.Com
Inconsistent Spring Hand Spun Single Ply Yarn - this one was spun from nice and soft Falkland wool hand dyed by the Yarn Wench, color called "Bower". It ended up a little less consistent than I like, even for a thick/thin single, so it varies between DK and Worsted weight. 150 yards.
Pretty
Purple Pansies - spun from a pretty batt from TerraBellaSpun - this one
has merino, superwash, wool, bamboo, gold sparkle, and white glitz and
then is plied with light purple thread. 78 bulky yards.
And,
then there is Woodland Royalty - an earthy skein in browns with
gorgeous deep purple and plied with dark purple thread. This one is
spun from another TerraBellaSpun batt made up of wool, mohair, bamboo,
sparkle, and Tussah Silk. 66 bulky yards.
Second
. . . I was on the front page earlier this week, overnight, with my
Plum Grove revisited yarn. And, then, I was on AGAIN last night with
the same yarn, but this time it sold!! I was so excited since this is
the first time that has happened! Woohoo! Here is a screenshot of the
treasury (and i'm sorry i couldn't get the entire thing - i don't have
a big monitor!) Thank you to crafthabit for creating such a beautiful treasury and for including me in it!
Also,
for anyone who may be interested in the Plum Grove yarn but missed out
on it - I do have 4 more oz of fiber that could be spun into a similar
yarn. I am running out of some of the yarns I spin into it, but could
spin two more skeins in this color combination. Just email me or convo me on etsy for details!
Finally, no Lego Star Wars last night as I was a little slow in getting my "work" done - but, I will have two skeins of a pretty shades-of-green-and-yellow-and-gold posted later today - here is a sneak peek:
First - I think there were two dead rock stars turning over in their graves last night as Randy Jackson compared an American Idol contestant (who had just sung "Light My Fire") to Michael Hutchence. Oh my. What would Jim think? Of course, I really don't even consider that one of "his" songs, but rather the lame top-40 hit by Robby Krieger . . . to say nothing of what Michael Hutchence would think being compared to just another wannabe rockstar. (Okay, I will admit that they guy wasn't *that bad*, but he was *definitely* NO Jim OR Michael!)
Second - I listed three yarns yesterday! Click on the pictures to go to their listing on etsy, or go to my website.
Hello Princess Kitty Grrlz Hand Spun Art Yarn (94 yards)
Hello Easter Kitty Grrlz Hand Spun Art Yarn (88 yards)
Easter, baby Hand Spun Art Yarn (78 yards)
Third
- I spun *three* yarns last night! Woohoo! I don't have pictures
because I didn't take the time to take them before setting the
twists/washing, so I will have pictures of them this afternoon, and
they will be listed then, too. There are a little less "exciting" than
these art yarns, but I needed to spin something that was a little less
time-consuming - I love the kitty yarns, but spinning in the novelty
yarns and the plying with beads all take extra time. The plying,
especially, has been taking longer because of how many beads I am now
using! Anyways, the new yarns are two new boucle-style art yarns -
pretty batts spun into a single ply and then plied with thread. The
third yarn is a pretty single ply in lavender, greens, and other spring
colors.
Fourth - I have a confession to make. One of the reasons I have been "slacking" is . . . I have become a little obsessed with the STAR WARS Lego game!?!?!? This is very much not like me. But, the story goes - I bought the PS3 for my boyfriend for Christmas/his birthday . . . since he was spending so much time playing by himself, he suggested we get the Star Wars Lego game so we could play something together. Well, at first I didn't think I would want to play . . . but I did . . . Unfortunately, he didn't like playing with me! I was too slow and just had a different overall way of playing that was driving him crazy. So, I ended up playing through the game by myself. But, now that we've "finished" it, we are both going back and re-playing the levels to find all the "stuff". This means that I've been playing at night and on the weekends when I really should be working. There, I admitted it!
One cool aside about the game - there was a trailer for an Indiana Jones game!! I am excited! I think it will be very cool and fun. It comes out this summer. Need to have the Star Wars game "done" by then! ;) It also got me thinking - you know what would make a TOTALLY KICK ASS Lego game????? BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER! :) Like Star Wars, you have so many characters and character variations you could play as! And, like, Buffy could have different skills/powers than Willow, and the vampires would have their powers - you could play as Angel or Angelous . . . or Spike with or without a soul . . or crazy Drusilla . . . just an endless amount of possibilities there!
ANYways . . . I think that is it, but even if not it is once again all I have time for!
So today I have a few things . .
First, I'd like to mention one of the sellers I featured last week . . . again. CharteChic crocheted a couple more wonderful items (perfect for Valentine's Day!) with my yarns. The first is from "Chocolate Cherry Valentine" . . . a super soft skein of superwash merino wool . . . here is what she created with it:
Make sure to click through to the listing to see all of the cool ways it can be worn!
Then,
there is "My Punk Love" convertable cowl - my "Punk Rock Valentine"
yarn is just one of the great yarns used in this creation:
So, if you are looking for something to keep you warm this Valentine's Day make sure to check out CharteChic on etsy!
Second, I was featured on Stella's "Laundry" blog! You can check it out HERE. Oh, and while you're there, check out all of the great shops and items she has featured. I especially like the LEGO SOAP! :)
Third . . . I've got more new yarns! I have been trying to keep up as it really has been an amazing month (THANK YOU to all of my wonderful customers!) but I feel like I am starting to slow down a bit . . . it doesn't help that I'm getting sick (again! I spent most of December sick! blah!) and that I received a whole bunch of Gedifra Poesie yarn yesterday . . . that all has to be knit up into shawls for spring and summer shows!?! I need more time! But, I am going to cut back on my shows just a little so I have time to spin more and get this knitting done . . .
BUT, anyways . . . here are the new yarns!
A new Hello Kitty Grrlz yarn! This one is bright and cheerful, in pinks, yellows, and oranges. It also has a coordinating skein without the Hello Kitty face beads. Both skeins are 82 yards. Here is "Hello Sunrise Kitty"
And, the coordinating skein, "Sunrise"
Then,
there is the second skein of "Plum Copper Surprise" . . . the first
skein has sold, and it had a lot more coiling and beehives in it, but
this skein is similar - spun from merino wool with lots of novelty
yarns and plied with metallic copper thread - 110 yards:
I also have two new single ply yarns. Both are spun from merino wool hand dyed by the Yarn Wench. And, both match Navajo 3-plys I also have available.
Sunset Canyon
Oh! I've got two more - both "Valentine" yarns, both spun from the same fiber from TerraBellaSpun.
One is plied with OnLine Linie SMASH yarn and the other has Joanns
Sensations Peacock yarn spun in and then plied with thread.
Drusilla's Valentine
Willow's Valentine
Coming soon . . . Cordelia's WISH yarn!
Well, I think that is it! Time to get to work!
Happy Tuesday! :)
So, it was a great New Year's weekend with LOTS of spinning getting done! Yay! Late New Year's Eve, I had this fiber ready to become my "First Spin of 2008":
I'll
admit, it was a little tempting to actually start spinning this at
midnight, but instead, I spun it up on New Year's Day . . . here are
the results . . .
The
first skein was spun with lots of novelty yarns and plied with two
colors of thread. This is superwash merino wool hand dyed by the Yarn Wench, so it is sooo soft and wonderful! This skein is 72 yards, bulky weight. It should be on etsy later today, but is already on my website. I am calling it "Chocolate Cherry Valentine."
The
next skein, and the one that was actually spun first, is pretty much
the same, except it was plied with Lana Grossa Nuvoletta yarn, a
mohair/acrylic blend. This one, "My Cheeky Valentine" is 64 yards,
bulky weight, 3.2 oz.
Then,
since it seemed I was on a Valentine-inspired kick, I spun up these two
skeins from hand dyed merino wool (from the Yarn Wench as well). They
are 80 and 82 yards, bulky/super bulky and have novelty yarns spun in,
glitz and angelina, and also tons of super silky soft Kid Mohair locks.
These are also available on my website and should be on etsy later!
AND! I have finally gotten a few Kitty Minis up on my site!
Kitty Minis (okay, I just couldn't call them Kittens!) are mini skeins
of handspun yarn--either individual skeins or lots of smaller skeins.
They would be great for freeform crochet, mixed media, scrapbooking,
collage, or any other crafty fiber fun project. They are also priced at
below what a similar full skein would cost, even though you still get
decent total yardage! The first lot has already sold, but here is a
picture:
That was 84 yards of handspun yarns!
The second one is a lot of two small skeins (20 and 24 yards) of my "Punk Rock Valentine" yarns! Here is a shot:
And,
the last one is a 54 yard skein spun up from sample carded batts,
mostly in blues and purples, with a few yards of brown/tan/gold at one
end. I was going to split this, but kind of liked it together, so I'm
calling it Woodburnt Blues.
Kitty Minis will hopefully become a regular item available from me. I hope to list new ones at the beginning of each month.
Another new item I'm hoping to have listed tonight are novelty yarn lots for spinning, collage, mixed media, scrapbooking, or any other crafty project--but mostly geared towards art yarn spinning. This idea has stemmed from a couple of things. First, I have SO MANY novelty yarns that I can't possibly use them all up! Second, I used some fibers from an etsy seller who seems to have disappeared that I really liked. They were color coordinated lots of various yarns and fibers in 30 or 35 yard lots, 2 yard lengths. I loved the convenience and color combinations. The only drawback was that I usually needed more yardage for 2-4 oz of fiber. So far, from what I've found, it seems like no one else has this type of yardage available for the price. So, I'm going to try and fill that gap--my lots will be MORE than 5-10 yards, MORE than 30-35, probably 40-50 and still be similarly priced! They will be cut in 2 yard lengths. Perfect for spinning into art yarns!! Right now, I have two lots ready to go--they are a little more uniform than future lots will be, meaning each one only has about 4 different yarns. I'm thinking future lots will have a little more variety of yarns with less strands of each. But, we'll see. Watch for them on kittygrrlz.com later today--that is, IF I can figure out what to call them!
Well, I think that is it for now! I leave you with one more picture, PlumLime Grove Yarn, this is the second skein done with the Plumgrove hand dyed merino wool from the Yarn Wench. This was such a fun color combination to do!
Back to work today, though now that I finally feel better, I wish I was spinning!
Quick recap . . .
Friday! I picked up my new car! Woohoo! I kept meaning to take pictures this weekend but didn't get a chance . . . hopefully I will be able to this weekend . . . I love it, though!
Saturday--dreary day, we went to American and bought a TV! I don't know why, especially don't know why I insisted on getting the more expensive one, but holy CRAP does it look good!! We rented 2 Blu-Ray movies and WOW!!! It really was amazing, which is saying something because up until I met and moved in with Scott, all I had was a 13 inch TV and was HAPPY with it! (I still have that TV, btw, and won't let him toss it! It still works! And, it has such sentimental value--it was our "kitchen" tv when i was a kid, then it became mine and went with me to college, Oregon, California, and back to Wisconsin. I just can't part with it!) Anyways, if *I* can tell the difference in clarity/picture/etc., it's GOT to be good!!
Sunday, finally took some slightly better pictures of the yarns I've spun up over the past few weeks . . . and they are finally up on etsy and my website! Here are pics of two that I haven't yet shown:
Dreaming of Electric Sheep:
Punk Rock Valentine v.3 (this one is actually from awhile ago, but I don't think I've posted a picture yet!)
And, here is one, but I listed it on Monday and it sold right away! Spun from merino wool dyed by the Yarn Wench:
AND!
Sunday and Monday I *finally* got back to spinning!! I spun up a Navajo
3-ply yarn from a 50% superwash merino/50% tencel fiber dyed by Spincerely.
This isn't the best pic as it was taken at night, but I didn't get a
chance to take new pics yet. Here it is (should be listed later today):
And, here is another Single Ply done on Monday night, spun from more merino wool dyed by the Yarn Wench. This one should also be listed later today!
Then, on Christmas morning (YES! I was spinning on Christmas morning! :) ) I spun up a merino/silk blend also dyed by the Yarn Wench.
It was my first time spinning this blend so just decided to do a single
ply. Not sure how I like it, honestly, and I know part of it is the
pictures--hopefully I'll have better ones soon and it will probably be
listed on my website later today as well.
After
I spun this up we went to Scott's Mom's house for Christmas--really
great food and it's always nice to visit with her. His dad was there as
well. We got AWESOME HUGE bath towels from her which we've been
wanting, and I got a really fun black velour HELLO KITTY
sweatshirt-type jacket--it has a big sparkly hello kitty face on the
back and is SOOO soft, seriously! I wore it the rest of the day! For my
buy-handmade gifts, I gave her a holiday ornament made by StarsDreamsandJewels and a needle-felted frog (she loves frogs) from a seller next to me at the Holiday Craftacular back in November.
Then, the debate began on whether or not we were going to try and get out to my uncle's house. Since our planned-for-the-28th gathering with my Mom, sister, and Grandma wasn't going to happen, I thought I should really get out there (it was almost an hour drive from where we were) . . . so I knew I had to go, the debate was getting Scott to go with me. Well, he did and while we got to my uncle's just as everyone was leaving, we quick hopped over to my Mom's and did our little family gathering/gift opening. I got my sister a cool rug from EKRA, my niece a really nifty wristlet from MINEFULL (I so wanted to keep this for myself!), and my mom a bowl made out of a record from RETIRED RECORDS. I know it wasn't much, but getting sick really put back my shopping plans, so I decided to just go with what I already had . . . I received some things for my new car and a beautiful hand made wind chime from my Mom! Yay Mom for buying handmade! ;)
Then, it was home and pretty much to bed as back to work bright and early this morning! After hearing about BOXING DAY on the radio this morning, I decided I would have a BOXING DAY SALE in my ETSY STORE.
Here are the details:
10% off all SALE PRICED items
Sale Priced Yarns
Sale Priced Hand Knits
15% off ALL other HANDSPUN YARNS
20% off ALL other HAND KNITS
Please put "BoxingDay" in Notes to Seller section and wait for updated invoice or pay and I will refund the difference.
SALE ENDS December 27, 7am CST.
I have been having a lot of sales lately, but come January 1, the Sale Priced sections will disappear and so will my penchant for sales! So, now is a great time to shop my store!!
Happy Holidays everyone!!
First, I have to say I have gone an entire 4 days without buying any fiber! Sure, I bought a car, but I am really going to have to watch my fiber spending with the new car payment coming up, so every day I can go without a purchase is a little victory for me! (I won't be on a STARVATION diet, of course, but I DO need to cut back--it has been like a fiber buffet for me lately!!)
Second, it was so tough yesterday! Knowing my car is just waiting for me to pick it up! AND! My money cleared much faster than I thought so it is sitting there just waiting for me, too! But, I decided to keep the plan for Friday on course . . .
Third, and probably best of all . . . I spun a yarn last night! It is just a nice little single ply spun from TerraBellaSpun's "Winter Warlock" batt. 150 yards, a little thinner than my usual yarns, maybe dk weight, not sure yet. I did wash my twist-setting/yarn soaking pot very well and finally got this one and the other one in there. I'm hoping to list them both on etsy and my website either tonight or tomorrow! Here is a picture of the Winter Warlock yarn:
And another:
And,
here is Bug, staking claim to the bag that the fiber came in--she
doesn't care much about the fiber but don't you dare take the plastic
bag away from her! :)

That's all for now! Hopefully I'll be spinning another yarn tonight and picking up the new car tomorrow!! YAY!!!
So, quite awhile ago now I spun up some yarn for a friend. It was a worsted weight 2ply spun from Falkland wool dyed by the Yarn Wench, color called "My Bleeding Heart". My friend knit a scarf from it, and I thought I would post some pictures of it!
I want to write, really I do, but I'm so tired, and am having a hard time thinking straight, so here are some pretty pictures of what I've finished lately! :)
The pom pom on my Coral Sea hat! The hat is knit with a two ply yarn that I spun, along with Moda Dea Frivolous. I also have a matching scarf. These aren't up on my site yet, but should be soon.
Here is the matching hat to the Mahogany Midnight Moon Scarf!
And, a Navajo 3-ply yarn spun while at CRAFTED! in Palatine, IL on Sunday. It came out a little less than perfect, thickness-consistency-wise, so it hasn't been posted for sale yet. I'm thinking it would make a great scarf, maybe?
Oh, and I guess here is a full picture of the Coral Sea hat!
I think that is it for now. I have a half hour left of work, then it is time for spinning! I have some fiber and yarns all ready to spin when I get home! I'm looking forward to it! It will be an art yarn spun from this superwash merino wool from the Yarn Wench, I've got some specialty yarns to spin in, and rayon plying thread that I got with an order from EweGiveMeTheKnits! And, now that I think of it, I could probably throw in some brown angelina, too!
