So, I didn't get quite as much spun this weekend as I was hoping to as I just wanted to laze around instead! But, I did get a TON of pictures taken for all of the hand knits that I need to add to my Kitty Grrlz Knits shop and also did get some yarns spun.
First, here are a couple shots of the hand knits. I will slowly be adding more shawls, scarves, and wristwarmers throughout the week. I'm editing the pictures slowly as even though I re-did my set-up, I'm still not getting the quality I want - but, for now, this is the best I can do.
Mocha Swirl Hand Knit Scarf - knit with a nylon/tactel yarn (Gedifra India)
Earth Mother Hand Knit Triangle Shawl - knit with Gedifra Poesie yarn (nylon/polyester/microfiber)
Then,
there are the yarns! The first ones I have to show are a second round
of the "Spring Break" colorway - this is actually the "Hot Tropics"
color hand dyed by the Yarn Wench.
This was my second batch (the previous two yarns have sold). Even
though I thought this was the lighter batch, I actually think it is
darker. I spun in a TON of green, purple, and yellow angelina for
sparkle in these, along with novelty yarns in green, purple, and
yellow. Then, I plied it with purple thread. Here they are:
106 yard skein:
108 yard skein:
The
next batch I did was the "Cherry Peacock" colorway, also dyed by the
Yarn Wench. This was Falkland wool and I absolutely loved this color
and wished I had more! Very difficult to get the true colors, but here
is a shot of the one available skein (the other is reserved):
I
also spun up this yarn, it was a "test" for a custom spin I am doing.
This one has a few colors/yarns in it that won't be in the "final"
yarn, which also means this one should be listed and available later
today. It was spun from the "Forest" fiber batts from FeltStudioUK.etsy.com
I didn't spin in the sequins as they will be used in the second skein.
This is a small skein of about 62 yards, with lots of novelty yarns in
shades of green and black spun in, and plied with metallic green thread.
I also spun up two Spontaneous Spinning batts from Loop
yesterday! I will wait to show those as I'd like to get better
pictures. They will both be listed later today, though. One is "Purple
Progression" and the other is "Creamsicle" (though my yarn names will
probably be different. They were great to spin - lots of different
fibers like wools, bamboo, alpaca, silk, and more! Look for pictures of
them tomorrow!
So, today I want to first take a moment to share some totally awesome scarves that were knit with my yarn! The first ones are from Brenda of Phydeaux Designs. She has used several of my art yarns to make her gorgeous hand knit scarves. Here are just a couple (you can click on the picture to go to the etsy listing!)

Then, there is my fiber friend Naomi - she spins some wonderful yarns herself and you can find her etsy shop HERE.
Here is a wonderful scarf she knit for her Mom with my "Martha's
Midnight Trellis" boucle yarn. She takes some great pictures so I'm
including two shots.

And,
just in case you thought the only thing you could make with my yarns
are scarves, here is a wonderful art doll made by Lisa. You can find
her wonderful Nymphlings on etsy HERE.
This
is "Veruca the Grape Vine Nymph"! Her HAIR was made with one of my Plum
Lime/Plum Grove skeins! You can see more pictures of Veruca HERE. At this time Veruca is not for sale, but she also has a really wonderful bunny in her shop now, "Rosebud Bunny".
Finally,
before I have to go, I will share pictures of a couple new yarns. These
were shown yesterday, but now I have much better pictures and they are
officially available on etsy and kittygrrlz.com.
Blu-Mocha
Cherry Hand Spun Art Yarns - two skeins, 100 yards (plied with pink
thread) and 92 yards (plied with blue thread). Both have 15 different
novelty yarns spun in (3 hand dyed by the Yarn Wench!)
which is more than usual for one of my art yarns. I also spaced them
much closer, so overall there is MORE spun into the skeins! Here they
are!
Then, there is what I spun last night! First, I gathered together the novelty yarns I wanted to spin into the fiber:
Then, I spun up the single:
And,
finally, ta-da! Two new skeins of art yarn! These pics aren't the
greatest, but I'll be taking better ones this afternoon and then
listing them both.
has it really been a week since I last posted???? Shame, shame!
But, I've been busy. I had a show on Saturday so of course spent last week getting ready for it, which basically meant forcing myself to KNIT! I don't know why it is so difficult for me to get working on a knitting project - once I complete them I'm always happy - but once again it was down to the wire as I tried to get two Triangle Shawls done . . . and it paid off as one of them sold! Here is the other one . . . they are *really* difficult to photograph. I realized this time that the problem is the only open/bright/white background space I have is by our window - which doesn't work too well when you are trying to take pictures having the light *behind* just isn't conducive to getting a good picture. So, I will have to work on trying to find another space. Right now I'm thinking I need to find a white sheet or something that i could drape over the TV or something, then I could use that as the background . . . but, I digress. Here are a couple of shots of the shawl - but they are much better in person!

I
also took pictures of two more scarves that I knit from hand dyed yarn
- this yarn is Austerman Samoa nylon microfiber yarn that was hand dyed
by Lynn aka the Yarn Wench, special for me. Both of these scarves are listed on my WEBSITE and also my hand knits etsy shop, Kitty Grrlz Knits. (The shawl will be listed later today.)

And,
of course, there has been lots of spinning! I spun up some bamboo
recently, but the first one I did on Friday and it just didn't turn out
well - I mean, I like it, especially the color, but it was spun much
too unevenly and, well, here it is so you can see for yourself:
I
guess it just turned out thicker and more over-twisted than I like. For
comparison, here is another bamboo skein that I spun up on Sunday. It
is much thinner, and more even (though I still get Wraps Per Inch
varying between Sport and Fine weight), but to me, it just looks much
more "professional":
This
one should be listed later today. I'm still not sure if I'm going to
list the other one. I may use it for my knitting experiment, we'll see.
I also spun up two Navajo 3-ply Yarns this weekend! Mostly done at my show. They are both available on my website or on etsy. If you click the pics below it will take you to the etsy listings.
This is "Sabrina's Garden" and is 160 yards. Merino wool.
This is "Fuchsia Cocoa Citrine", 116 yards, merino and silk blend hand dyed by the Yarn Wench.
Both
are priced a little less than normal as they were mostly spun while at
my show. Which, by the way, was an okay show. I sold a few yarns and
the shawl, made my fee and gas money back with even a little to spare!
Yay! Now, I don't have a show until April 12, and the main thing I want
to have done by then are MORE SHAWLS, and more bamboo yarns.
Finally, I just have to say WOOHOO! I was on the front page of etsy on Sunday night! Here is a screen shot of part of the treasury that was curated by SteppingStones. Thank you for including me and yay for it making the front page!

Oops,
ONE more thing, then I must get to work. Here is a sneak peek at a new
yarn I spun last night. It is merino wool hand dyed by the Yarn Wench,
with lots of specialty yarns spun in, and plied with rayon thread. 114
yards and 4.1 oz! AND, I still have more of the fiber so will be
spinning a matching skein (will probably be smaller, though) tonight.
This one, though, should be listed later today, once I get a chance to
take some better pictures!
Well, it has been quite the year! This was my first full-fledged year as a "spinner" and the first full year I have really dedicated to making Kitty Grrlz a viable business. It has been a ton of work but alot of fun, and I am already making plans for 2008!
After being sick for nearly two weeks, and just not getting much done on the crafting front, I have finally gotten back into the SPIN of things--I spun up a whole bunch of yarns this weekend -- most of them on Friday -- and finished a scarf that has been on the needles since before I got sick.
Here is a nice shot of some of the yarns:
Some of them are on etsy now. Sonoma 1 and 2 are here and here. Abundance - one is being held so I haven't listed the other one yet. Plum Lime Divine is HERE and Divine Melon is HERE. The last one isn't on etsy yet, but all of them (except Abundance) are on my website.
In other store news, TODAY is the LAST DAY to get the SALE PRICE on selected items. The Sale Priced HandSpun Yarns are on Etsy HERE and the Sale Priced Hand Knits are on Etsy HERE. ALL SALE items are HERE on my website.
In addition, I will also offer FREE SHIPPING in the USA on ALL ORDERS and HALF PRICE SHIPPING on International orders. Just put "FS" in Notes to Seller or Comments section and wait for updated invoice or pay and I will refund the difference. This offer (and the sale prices) ends tonight at Midnight, CST.
I have also opened a new ETSY SHOP for my HAND KNIT items -- Kitty Grrlz Knits - kittygrrlzknits.etsy.com Beginning tomorrow, I will be listing all of my new hand knit items there and Kitty Grrlz - kittygrrlz.etsy.com will only be for my handspun yarns. I will still combine shipping between the two shops, and my website will stay the same, but this is something I thought I would try for the new year. Items currently in the Kitty Grrlz shop will slowly be switched over to the new shop--I hope to have everything separated by the end of January.
In the new year, I am also going to putting out a monthly newsletter via email. Recipients of the newsletter will be the first to find out about new yarns or items, upcoming craft shows, and will get special discounts and offers. These discounts will be the only ones I offer most of the time, so if you would like to join the Newsletter mailing list, just EMAIL ME.
Finally, I will leave you with some more pictures of my latest items! :)
Amethyst Sky Scarf - hand knit by me with Austermann Samoa yarn hand-dyed by Lynn (aka the Yarn Wench.) This should be up at kittygrrlzknits.etsy.com tomorrow!
Here is a nice cozy scarf knit up from handspun yarn from TerraBellaSpun.
Here
is a another new yarn, just finished around 12:30am this morning! It is
spun from merino wool handdyed by the Yarn Wench, and I think I'm
sticking to the name of "Reckless" . . .
And, just a few single shots of the other new art yarns:

Now, I have to get back to spinning! Happy new year everyone!
So, quite awhile ago now I spun up some yarn for a friend. It was a worsted weight 2ply spun from Falkland wool dyed by the Yarn Wench, color called "My Bleeding Heart". My friend knit a scarf from it, and I thought I would post some pictures of it!
So, I was sick yesterday. Spent the morning in a nyquil-induced haze, but I just couldn't sleep away the *whole* day, so in the afternoon I went on a picture-taking spree! I set up the body form my Mom got me (for like, $5 at an estate sale, I think, so it isn't in the best of shape), managed to find a mostly-white t-shirt to put on it, and proceeded to take pictures of every scarf I have! This was A LOT, or at least it seemed like it! Between taking the pictures, editing them, and getting them to flickr, it took forever! I didn't even have time to get them listed on my site like I had wanted to before needing to return to the couch! I did get several re-listed on etsy with the new pictures and added some of the new pictures to etsy listings, but originally I had wanted to get them *all* listed (on my site at least, not etsy).
Before I get to some pictures of the older scarves, I have to post the one I am most proud of as it is knit with hand spun art yarn *I* spun! It was knit with my "Mahogany Midnight Moon". I used the 110 yard skein. The one remaining will hopefully become a matching hat! Here are a couple of pictures:
Here are the ones re-listed or new pics or ones already listed, all knit with Handspun Yarn from the Yarn Wench!
in posting! I am back to work today -- ended up taking all last week off. The shows were pretty good (more on them later) and when I did return I went on a 4-day spinning and knitting spree!
Quickly . . .
My booth at Musky Fest:
This show was pretty good. The weather was *perfect*, seriously. Sunny but not too warm so people weren't afraid to try things on. I sold a little bit of everything--yarn, shawls, and even a hat and scarf set. This was on Sunday, August 12 in Boulder Junction, WI.
On Wednesday, August 15 I was in Eagle River at the Paul Bunyan Festival. It wasn't quite as good as Musky Fest, but I still did okay. After a morning that looked a little dicey as far as weather goes, it cleared up and was pretty nice (though windy). I sold a bit--mostly shawls, but not as good as Musky Fest. Seemed like at Musky Fest people weren't put off by my prices, whereas in Eagle River, they were. I could tell -- someone would love an item . . . until they looked at the price tag. Oh well. I know my items will not be for everyone!
On that note, these were the first two shows I was able to accept credit cards at, and I did make two sales at each show using my new account. I called them in after the show, but it went really smoothly and the fees are similar to paypal. I use propay.com.
I did bring my wheel to the shows and was able to spin this yarn while there:
I was very homesick while up north, and I was *so happy* to get back late on Wednesday night. I was very beat, though, after a long drive, and ended up taking Thursday off from work. I went on a knitting rampage that day! I knit two hats and three scarves! Here are a couple of pics:
So, this weekend was Harry Potter Weekend, I guess! I didn't get any spinning done, but I DID read Harry Potter AND knit a few things!
Friday, I did some knitting, and this hat was the result:
It is knit by me with Yarn Wench Yarn! Speaking of the Yarn Wench . . . I was a very bad girl on Friday . . . I couldn't resist . . . she is having a sale on her handspun yarn . . . so of course, I had to buy the one I've been wanting since she first posted it . . . Raspberry Floozie! Can't wait to get it and knit it up! (I also bought another one, and ONE fiber, but oh my, I could have easily bought so much more, but I MUST STOP!!! :) )
Anyways, on Saturday morning we did our normal run to Sam's Club . . . and they had the Harry Potter book . . . so even though I was expecting my copy in the mail that day . . . we bought a copy so my boyfriend could read it, too . . . so, we got home and he started reading right away! I said, TELL ME NOTHING!!! :) Even though I've been spoiled for every other book, and usually don't care, for some reason, for this last book I wanted to know nothing before reading, no spoilers, nothing! So, he read, and I knit . . .
My book arrived around 10:30-11am. I started it almost immediately and pretty much read straight through and finished it around 1am! So, that was the reason there was no spinning done on Saturday . . .
Then, on Sunday, I was just . . . drained, I don't know . . . reading the book was sort of . . . draining for some reason. So, I didn't get much done, except for some knitting. I decided I needed to knit some more of MY OWN yarn up, so I took "Galway Spring", two skeins I had spun from handdyed wool from the Yarn Wench, spun in two novelty yarns, and plied with thread . . . and I knit them into a hat and a scarf! Here are pics:
These were my main accomplishments of the day, though I did also get some more promo keychains made up and knit a little on the shawl I started on Friday.
I will do some spinning tonight, though, as I am going to spin up a yarn for a fellow librarian friend. But, I do think I may be doing a lot more knitting for the next couple of weeks as I've got a lot I want to try and get done before my shows in August. (lightweight shawls, light scarves). We'll see, though . . I've got so much beautiful fiber just waiting to be spun!
So, I guess it's been a few days since posting . . . I went to the wedding last weekend in Minnesota and ended up getting back later on Sunday than I thought which kind of threw me off and I've been remiss in updating here . . .
The wedding was very nice! She had absolutely *perfect* weather, seriously. (It was indoors, but still.) An absolutely beautiful day! The ceremony was short, sweet, to the point! The dinner was fabulous--you know how wedding food, well, may tend to be kind of bland? Well, not this one! It was a chicken dish, but wow, it definitely had a zip to it! Very good! The reception was fun, as receptions always are! Lots of dancing . . . and of course a little drinking . . . and lots of silliness. Unfortunately, the only picture I took was of the wedding cake!?! I'm just not used to having a camera so I didn't really take it out! Here's the cake, though:
As you can see, they had a Mickey/Minnie theme going (the invitations were also Mickey & Minnie!) and the color scheme of black and red, as well. The cake was also very yummy!
Had a little time on Saturday before the wedding to finish knitting this hat:
Then on Sunday the ride home was getting long so I pulled out some of my handspun yarn and knit up a scarf! This is Midnight Valentine and matches the hat I did previously. The yarn was spun by me from handdyed domestic wool from the Yarn Wench, and I also spun in several novelty yarns and plied it with thread . . .here is the scarf, though the pictures are a little lighter than the actual color:
Also, last week before leaving, I did finish up some yarns. I posted about the single ply yarns which are now all on etsy, and only briefly mentioned the "Pink Lemonade" yarns I spun up. There are two skeins, one 98 yards which is just a boucle with lots of added sparkle, and the other is 58 yards of art yarn with novelty yarns spun in. Here is a picture of both:
It's been hard getting back into the swing of things this week. I haven't spun anything, though I did begin spinning up another fairly thin single last night that is destined to become a two ply. I have about 8 oz and probably did about 3.5 last night. That first bobbin will definitely get finished tonight and I'll start on the second. I'm hoping to have it done on Thursday night. The wool is handdyed Falkland from the Yarn Wench and you can see the colors HERE and HERE.
I'm also knitting another scarf with Austermann Samoa. I've also got to get going on some more summer shawls for the August shows I have coming up. I managed to get some more yarn for these shawls and also the scarves I like to do on ebay! Woohoo!
Well, I'm sure I'm missing some things, but these are the highlights!
So, this week is kinda busy, what with ART VS CRAFT coming up this weekend! Here is more info:

Yesterday, the Fourth of July. It was the first day in over 2 months that I did *nothing*. I didn't knit, or spin, or take pictures of yarn, or blog, or ANYTHING!! We went to my boyfriend's Mom's house, hung out, drank Mike's Lime, and ate. It WAS nice, but wow, it was hot! We got home and I barely lasted an hour or two before I was asleep . . . by like 7 or 8pm! Though I did briefly wake up when the fireworks were going off--there are some that we can basically see right out our apartment window! All that sleep was good, though, because I did have to come in to work today, though I plan on leaving early so I can get home and resume "operations" to get ready for the show this weekend. I did spin a two-ply yarn on Tuesday that needs pictures taken, and I have a shawl that needs finishing. I also hope to spin probably one more yarn before Saturday . . . then, it is LABELING time! I have probably over 100 items to label since I have all new cards/labels now!
What would a post of mine be without some pictures, though? Here are a couple of things finished earlier in the week:
Message in a Bottle Hand Knit Handspun Art Hat & Scarf Set:
This was knit with Handspun Art Pirate Yarn from the Yarn Wench! I really liked how this turned out and just might have to keep it! You can see lots more pictures HERE ON FLICKR!
And, here is a single ply yarn spun up:
It is on etsy HERE!
Then,
there are the Daydream Believer Yarns. I love these! They turned out so
nice and am impressed with the yardage--120 and 134 yards! Of Art Yarn!
Woohoo! There are lots more pics on flickr, but here are a couple of the best ones:
Okay, now I must get to work so that I can leave early! :)
